Leilani Maldonado
Leilani Maldonado has been in the social work field since 2002. She started working at the Safe House Shelter, working with Domestic Violence survivors as a transitional housing case manager. After obtaining her associates degree in Criminal Justice, she went back to school for a Bachelor’s degree in social work at Highlands University in 2005. In 2008, she secured a position as a case manager for the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center, where she remained for 7 years. She recently received her Masters’ in Clinical Social Work from Highlands University, is a License Substance Abuse Associate, and part of the Life Skills team. Leilani has been certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She currently facilitates DBT skills groups and various Life Skills groups with GBCS students currently housed in the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center. She is motivated by a desire to help individuals stop the cycle of recidivism by targeting students’ attitudes, values, and beliefs towards positively influencing their future behavioral changes.
