Michael Archuleta

Born in Pueblo, Colorado, having moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1970, Mike graduated from West Mesa High School, continuing his education at the University of New Mexico. Married for 42 years with 3 children, 13 grandchildren, Mike has coached multiple sports for over 30 years and continues to do so. He's worked for the City of Albuquerque Bernalillo County Detention Center from 1983 until 2003 as a Captain where he was assigned multiple duties and opened Albuquerque's first Social Detox program (Sobering Services) which later evolved into Bernalillo County Behavioral Health Services. During his time at BCDC, he was very blessed to work with Gordon Bernell. "I saw what his vision has evolved into," says Mike. "He gave those who are incarcerated an opportunity to to better their lives through education. It is my personal belief that if you allow someone the opportunity to better themselves, the chance of recidivism may be reduced." In 2024, Mike was hired as an adult education and IET instructor.
