Gordon Bernell Charter School students got to “walk the labyrinth” on Thursday, August 3 at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) campus. Labyrinths are being used at churches, hospitals, schools, parks and prisons across the country as a meditative practice aimed at dealing with stress. Labyrinth walkers strive to increase levels of relaxation, clarity and peace, while reducing emotional pain and stress.
Walking the labyrinth was teacher Andrea Fletcher’s final lesson at the jail. Ms. Andrea ends a seven-year “sentence” at MDC. She has accepted a position as a special education director for the Department of Defense in Germany. She will be sorely missed at the school.
