Lisa Gabaldón began her teaching career as a special education teacher in 2006 upon earning her Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of New Mexico.  In addition to special education, Ms. Gabaldón is also certified to teach regular education with endorsements in TESOL, Bilingual Education, Modern & Classical Langauges, Language Arts, and Reading.

Ms. Gabaldón’s teaching experience has only been with students who have not thrived in traditional educational settings.  Her passion for working with diverse students was instilled by her grandmother whose career was dedicated to working with residents at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School who were born with a wide range of learning disabilities and physical disabilities.  Through her grandmother’s work and never ending kindness and generosity, Ms. Gabaldón learned to accept and embrace the uniqueness of every individual.

Ms. Gabaldón believes that the at-risk population has been neglected by many traditional school districts, yet is encouraged by the professionalism, curriculum, and the support provided to the students at Gordon Bernell Charter School.  Ms. Gabaldón is inspired by the hope and hard work exhibited by the at-risk population of students, and feels that this group of students is determined to make positive changes in their lives.
