Jonathan Noyes-Elfstrom came to Gordon Bernell Charter School after moving to Albuquerque from northern California, where he had worked for three years as a math and science teacher at a alternative charter high school with a large at-risk population. He is delighted to be a part of such a unique and innovative project as GBCS and excited to see this school grow and serve as a model for future inmate rehabilitation programs through education. Growing up, Jonathan developed an interest in science by the frequent hikes that he went on with his family in rural northern California and by his father’s unusual hobby of keeping and breeding tarantulas. After graduation from high school, he went to Arizona State University to pursue a degree in Biology. In the process of getting his undergraduate degree, Jonathan found a passion for education. After finishing his degree, he returned home to California to get his high school teaching credential. In addition to his credentials in math and science, Jonathan would like to eventually become credentialed to teach music and special education classes and is interested in pursuing master’s degrees in math, science, and education.
