Carlos Contreras found the classroom by way of his own high school classroom experience.  Now 24 years old, Carlos was inspired and encouraged at the age of 17 by a classroom presentation.  Slam poetry infiltrated the normal happenings of his 11th grade English class and the rest his history.  For the past 7 years, Contreras has worked in a number of charter schools, APS Schools, and treatment centers.  Carlos primarily performs contract work   teaching young men and women to write and perform poetry.  After having been exposed to Slam Poetry, he too picked it up in 2001 and has yet to put it down.  Now with two team competitive national championships under his belt (one at the Collegiate level, and one at the professional level), Contreras has made it a personal responsibility to share his gift with the world.  He currently serves as an English teacher at Gordon Bernell Charter School.
