Gordon Bernell Charter School operates on two high school campuses: one within the secure perimeter of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center, known as the MDC Campus, and the other in downtown Albuquerque at the Bernalillo County Public Safety Center.  At MDC, we have classrooms in both the men’s and the women’s areas of the jail and offer all core content area courses (math, English, science, social studies) and courses required for graduation in New Mexico such as physical education, health, and New Mexico history. Our teachers are fully licensed by the State of New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED).  Classes start at 8:00 am for men and end at 2:30 pm. For women they begin at 2:30 pm and end at 6:00 pm. All students at the MDC Campus are 18 years of age and above.
Classes are offered from 8:00am to 6:00pm at our downtown campus as well. Students are free to choose the schedule that best accomodates their needs as long as they enroll in a minumum of 3 classes.  The majority of students at the downtown campus are also at least 18 years of age.
At both campuses, our curriculum is designed to maximize student success.  It is self-paced, mastery-based and highly individualized.
