Jerry Otero, Board Member
Is currently the Family Services Director for HELP-NM, and began his career in the social service field at the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Home in 1973 as a Counselor. In 1976 he went to work for A New Day Youth and Family Services whose services include shelter care, juvenile justice alternative to detention, and behavioral health prevention and intervention services. He has always been committed to improving the lives of youth and families, and has worked with local, state and federal government agencies, service providers, the public schools, courts, public and private foundations, city councils, county commissions and the state legislature toward accomplishing this goal. He retired in 2008 from A New Day. He has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Albuquerque and attended the University of New Mexico under a National Hispanic Fellowship where he received a Masters of Public Administration Degree. He is currently a member of the New Mexico Youth Providers Alliance, OptumHealth New Mexico Hispanic Advisory Committee, NCLR Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, and has served on various community boards and task forces throughout his career.
